Sometimes the best ideas start with an accident, and that is exactly how Naked & Famous created their latest denim innovation.

During a visit to their Japanese mill, a cup of coffee accidentally spilled on a piece of 'Prepared For Dye' denim (white denim designed to absorb colour quickly). Instead of writing it off, the team saw an opportunity. “Coffee dye!” they joked, and to their surprise, the mill said, “Yes, we can do that.” Just like that, the Coffee Dyed Selvedge was born.

Who Are Naked & Famous?

Naked & Famous Denim is a Canadian brand known for doing denim differently. They focus on sourcing and creating jeans using the best fabrics from some of Japan’s most prestigious mills. Every pair is designed to showcase the fabric itself, whether it is a traditional indigo selvedge or something completely experimental like glow-in-the-dark denim, scratch-and-sniff jeans, or, in this case, coffee-dyed selvedge.

Real Coffee, Real Denim

The weft yarn, the horizontal threads in the denim, is dyed with a solution made from real medium roast coffee beans. As you wear them in, those warm brown threads gradually become more visible, especially in areas where the denim naturally fades and creases. The result is a completely unique pair of jeans that tells your story over time. 

Details That Matter

In true Naked & Famous style, the coffee theme does not stop at the fabric. The jeans are finished with coffee-coloured stitching, a matching selvedge ID and a coffee-coloured leather patch. At 12.5oz, they strike the perfect balance between durability and comfort, with a short break-in time that makes them easy to wear from day one.
