Description

This natural hand dye crewneck T-shirt is a richly textured jersey piece built around fabric experimentation, Japanese craft and natural dyeing tradition. Cut with a modern athletic fit, it has a clean everyday shape with enough substance to feel premium while still remaining comfortable for regular wear.

Made in Japan from 280gsm cotton jersey, the fabric blends recycled cotton gathered during yarn spinning, offcuts from Double Heavyweight T-shirts and extra-long staple cotton. Knitted at low tension and slow speed, it develops a soft, bouncy handle with a rich slubby texture throughout. That texture works beautifully with natural dyeing, as the uneven surface absorbs colour at different rates, creating depth, variation and character across the garment.

Hand-dyed in Amami, an island chain in southern Japan with a centuries-old dyeing tradition, each T-shirt is finished using three natural dye techniques in one garment. Through a shibori process, similar to Western tie-dye, the shirt is tied and section-dyed in stages: first with the warm, rosy dye of the Sharinbai tree, then with Sharinbai combined with Amami’s iron-rich dorozome mud dye, and finally with Sharinbai layered with repeated dorozome immersions to create an almost black tone. Finished with a binder neck ribbed collar and Union Special flat side seam construction, each piece is naturally one of a kind.
