Description
In the style of classic umpire pants, a large pocket is placed from the waist to the hips. The Jackman Umps Pants are made of a dry cotton blend from the USA and Australia, using yarns spun in a way that creates neps by adjusting the machine when carding the raw cotton (a process to remove impurities and align the fibres in a certain direction). This is a very technical process, and it is difficult to get the neps to be strong or weak. On the other hand, it has a natural and rustic look. Since nep yarn is a weak yarn that breaks more easily than usual, delicate control is necessary when weaving. Therefore, an old-fashioned "rapier loom" is used, which is capable of weaving with strength on weak yarns such as this.

Jackman
In 1949, driven by a passion for baseball, visionary Mitsugu Tanabe quit his day job and founded the Tanabe Meriyasu factory in Fukui, Japan. Inspired by the stockings of visiting American baseball teams in the years following the war, Tanabe began to create baseball stirrup stockings of exceptional quality, even inventing new machines in order to yield a result superior to anything else available. Tanabe Meriyasu soon gained a reputation for quality and craftmanship. The factory went on to supply the official training wears of the 1964 Japanese Olympic team.
The Jackman brand as it exists today is the evolution of Tanabe’s founding vision. Each piece is still crafted in the original factory, and the Jackman offering may have extended far beyond baseball stirrup stockings, but the same commitment to quality that inspired Mitsugu Tanabe remains. Jackman even continue to use the original vintage machines; although the pace is slower than today’s machines, the quality endures.
