Introduced in 1980, the Barbour Bedale Jacket marked the brand’s first short, lightweight waxed jacket—designed by Dame Margaret Barbour with equestrian practicality and enduring British style in mind. Originally created for riding, the Bedale’s shorter length, relaxed fit, and rear vents allowed ease of movement in the saddle, while the nylon inner ‘drip-strip’ prevented moisture from seeping upward from the horse. Crafted from mediumweight 6oz waxed cotton, it provides reliable weather protection and versatility, making it ideal for year-round wear.
The jacket remains faithful to Barbour’s hallmark design elements, including a brass two-way ring-pull zip, studded ‘Stormfly’ front, two spacious bellows pockets, and soft moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets. A traditional corduroy collar with studs for a throat flap completes the timeless silhouette.
