Studio D'Artisan is one of the great names in Japanese denim, widely recognised as the first of the legendary Osaka 5. Founded in 1979 by Shigeharu Tagaki, a designer who had spent time learning his trade in France, the brand was shaped by a love of French workwear and the American jeans culture that had taken hold in Japan during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
From the beginning, Studio D'Artisan focused on recreating the quality, texture and character of vintage denim. Using old Toyoda G-3 shuttle looms, the brand began producing denim with the depth and irregularity that mass-produced jeans of the era often lacked. Disappointed by the declining quality of mainstream denim in the 1980s, Studio D'Artisan set out to make original denim goods rooted in the golden age of jeans.
Our Studio D'Artisan collection at Jeanstore includes premium jeans, clothing and accessories made with the brand’s unmistakable focus on fabric, construction and heritage detail. Expect selvedge denim, vintage-inspired silhouettes, carefully developed fabrics and pieces designed to age beautifully with wear.
Studio D'Artisan may be rooted in history, but it is far from stuck in the past. With its mix of traditional production, playful character and serious denim craftsmanship, the brand continues to produce some of the most sought-after Japanese clothing available today.
