Description
The Yuketen Maine Guide Ox DB shoe pays homage to the footwear of New England’s early wilderness guides, merging traditional moccasin construction with the durability needed for rugged terrain. A takedown from the high profile boot, it reflects the lineage of both indigenous moccasins and early American work boots, built to withstand harsh conditions while providing close-fitting comfort.
Each pair is handcrafted in Maine, USA, from Horween’s pebbled grain Chromexcel pull-up leather. This full-grain leather is produced through a unique double-tanning process that combines vegetable and chrome treatments, creating a supple, aromatic hide with rich pull-up characteristics. Its oiled surface reveals lighter tones when flexed, offering depth and character while maintaining durability, making it ideal for moccasin construction.
Built on Yuketen’s proprietary 1950s moccasin last, the shoe is hand-lasted and hand-stitched from multiple leather pieces to follow the natural shape of the foot. A cinched vamp ensures a secure, anatomical fit. Inside, vegetable-tanned leather insoles and midsoles are paired with a leather tuck, steel shank, and memory foam for long-term arch support and comfort. This construction distributes weight evenly and reduces fatigue.
Underfoot, a nine-layer bottoming unit of leather, rubber, and PU compounds is completed with Vibram’s USA-made Christy sole, delivering lightweight cushioning and dependable traction. With its double-bottomed build and genuine moccasin construction, the Maine Guide shoe exemplifies Yuketen’s craftsmanship and commitment to functional design.
