Merz b. Schwanen is a family-run, Berlin-based clothing brand built on heritage, integrity and a deep respect for slow, considered manufacturing. Originally founded in 1911 by Balthasar Merz in Germany’s Swabian Alps, the brand began by producing loopwheeled workers’ shirts and undergarments - simple, durable garments made with patience, purpose and exceptional attention to fabric. A century later, Gitta and Peter Plotnicki rediscovered the spirit of the brand after finding an original 1911 Henley at a Berlin flea market, a piece whose quality and preservation led them back to the historic loopwheel machines and the decision to revive Merz b.
