Description
Designed in 1980 by Dame Margaret Barbour, the Bedale® Jacket was created specifically with equestrian practicality in mind. Its shorter length, relaxed fit, and rear vents were tailored to allow comfort and mobility while riding, while the essential nylon inner ‘drip-strip’ prevented moisture from seeping upward from the horse, ensuring lasting dryness and durability. Crafted from mediumweight 6oz waxed cotton, the Bedale® embodies both functionality and timeless British style—versatile enough for year-round wear and adaptable with optional zip-in thermal liners and hoods.
True to Barbour tradition, the jacket features a brass two-way ring-pull zip with a studded ‘Stormfly’ front, two large bellows pockets, and soft moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets for added comfort. The classic corduroy collar includes studs for a throat flap, offering protection against the elements. Its practical yet refined design has made the Bedale® a favourite across generations. Still handcrafted in the North East of England, the Bedale® remains a symbol of enduring country style and authentic functionality.

Features
Barbour Heritage
The Barbour Heritage collection stands as a testament to more than a century of British craftsmanship, tradition, and timeless style. Rooted in the rugged landscapes and maritime heritage of the North East coast of England, Barbour was founded in 1894 in South Shields, and since then has become synonymous with enduring quality and functional elegance. The Heritage line draws deeply from this rich archive, reimagining classic silhouettes and details for the modern era while preserving the spirit and authenticity that define Barbour’s legacy.
Every piece in the Barbour Heritage collection is a bridge between past and present — a celebration of the brand’s iconic outerwear, traditional tailoring, and distinctive British character. Signature waxed cotton jackets, quilted layers, and refined knitwear are crafted with meticulous attention to detail, blending traditional techniques with contemporary fits and finishes. Subtle updates in cut and design make these pieces effortlessly wearable today, yet they remain true to the brand’s original purpose: to provide practical, durable clothing built to withstand the elements.
