Men’s cotton boxer shorts
Traditional boxer shorts have a roomy shape through the seat and thighs. If you prefer underwear that sits away from the leg, this is the cut to look for.
The Carhartt WIP Cotton Boxer uses lightweight cotton poplin with an elasticated waistband. Plain and striped options give you a choice of finish, while the product photographs show the fly construction and length.
Boxer shorts or boxer briefs?
Boxer shorts have a looser leg, while boxer briefs fit more closely around the seat and thighs. Your preference may depend on both the feel of the underwear and the trousers you wear.
Loose boxers have more room beneath straight or relaxed trousers. Under slim jeans, the extra fabric may gather, so a closer-fitting boxer brief could be more comfortable. Browse our men’s boxer briefs if you prefer that shape.
Choosing your size
Use the product’s size guide and any brand-specific fitting advice. A loose cut should still fit securely at the waist; sizing up simply to gain more room can leave the waistband too large.
Check the seat and leg openings as well as the waist measurement. You should be able to sit and move comfortably without the fabric pulling tight or the waistband digging in.
Are all cotton boxers stretchy?
No. Cotton describes the fibre rather than how much the fabric stretches. Check the composition and construction of the particular pair. An elasticated waistband provides adjustment at the waist, but doesn’t mean the fabric around the legs has added stretch.
How should I wash boxer shorts?
Follow the care label for the individual product. Wash similar colours together and check the recommended temperature and drying method, particularly before tumble drying. Different fabrics and finishes can need different care.
