Jeans made in a 14.2oz. Japanese selvage denim with an aging property that is simply ace.
Jeans made in a beautiful, sturdy, 14.2oz, redcast selvage denim woven by Shinya Mills in Okayama, Japan. The warp yarns have been dip dyed 20 times in pure indigo, giving the jeans their dark, pure indigo, redcast tone. The naturally slubby yarns, woven under low-tension has produced the perfectly chunky and uneven surface structure. Making this fabric hit the very spot where imperfection turns to perfection - a true denim masterpiece. If that was not enough this denim fabric has a history: it is a recreation of a denim used for a pair of jeans from the 1950s. The jeans were found at a vintage market, worn-in and utterly beautiful. In awe of the look, the good people at Shinya took it upon themselves to replicate the denim fabric. And boy are we happy they did! These Steady Eddie IIs are, much thanks to the fabric, simply ace. If you are looking for a 'top of the line' Japanese selvage that develops a marbling, salt 'n pepper structure like the best vintage denim did, then this is by all means it. We are super excited to be able to offer the Steady Eddie II Dry Ace Selvage. Let the break-in begin!

Originally the denim cloth used to make jeans was produced on shuttle looms. These produced a tightly woven cloth by passing a continuous thread backwards and forwards. The resulting fabric was narrow and had finished edges or self-edges, hence the term selvedge. This fabric was relatively costly and slow to produce as were the jeans fashioned from it. When the demand for jeans rose dramatically in the latter half of the 20th century production methods were inevitably altered to create cheaper fabrics that could be produced in higher volumes. Shuttle looms were abandoned in favour of projectile looms which were quicker, which produced wider cloth and which did not use continuous threads. Denim now had unfinished edges with a frayed appearance.
