Choosing a men’s white T-shirt
The differences between white T-shirts become clearer when you compare fabric weight, shape and finish. A lighter tee can sit comfortably beneath a shirt, while a heavier fabric generally gives a more structured outline when worn on its own. Neckline, sleeve length and body length also affect how it looks and feels.
Explore brands including Merz b. Schwanen, Carhartt WIP, Levi’s®, Wonder Looper and Colorful Standard, with plain, pocket and branded options across the selection.
Regular, relaxed or oversized?
Start with a T-shirt you already like the fit of. Compare its chest width and body length with the measurements provided for your chosen style, following the same measuring method.
A regular fit works well beneath an overshirt or jacket without adding much bulk. For a looser silhouette, look for a relaxed or oversized cut and check the shoulder position and sleeve length. Sizing up a regular tee can also make it longer, so it won’t necessarily produce the proportions of a deliberately oversized design.
White crew neck T-shirts are a straightforward choice for wearing alone or showing beneath an open collar. Pocket tees add a small detail to a plain front, while long sleeve white T-shirts offer more coverage.
Cotton, heavyweight and loopwheel T-shirts
Check both the fibre composition and fabric weight when comparing men’s cotton T-shirts. Two cotton tees can feel quite different depending on the yarn, knit and finishing.
Heavyweight white T-shirts tend to have more body and may feel warmer than lighter alternatives. A higher fabric weight can help reduce show-through, although weight alone doesn’t guarantee opacity. Consider how you’ll wear the tee: a substantial fabric may suit wearing on its own, while a lighter option can be easier to layer.
Selected Merz b. Schwanen styles use loopwheel construction. This describes the knitting method rather than a particular fit or weight, so compare the specifications of each model. Likewise, an organic cotton label describes the cotton used; it doesn’t tell you whether the finished shirt will be thick, fitted or loose.
Bright white, off-white and ecru
This selection includes shades such as white, off-white, natural and ecru. Bright white creates a sharper contrast with black trousers and dark indigo jeans. Creamier shades can sit more softly alongside olive, brown and stone.
Colour names vary between brands. Check the named shade and product photographs rather than assuming that “natural”, “ivory” and “off-white” will look identical.
What to wear with a white T-shirt
Pair a plain white T-shirt with straight-leg blue jeans and trainers for a simple combination. With chinos, try navy or olive for contrast, or stone for a lighter palette. Under a denim or western shirt, an unprinted tee keeps the focus on the outer layer.
A relaxed white tee works well with wider trousers, while a closer fit can be easier to tuck in. If you plan to wear yours beneath knitwear or a jacket, check that the neckline and hem sit where you want them.
Check the care instructions
Follow the care label for the individual T-shirt, particularly any washing temperature, drying or shrinkage guidance. Don’t assume that all cotton tees will shrink by the same amount—or that buying a larger size is necessary. Wash with similar colours and check whether tumble drying is suitable before using it.
