Which Levi’s black jeans fit should you choose?

Start with the shape you already find comfortable. A straight leg leaves more room around the ankle, while a tapered cut narrows towards the hem. Relaxed and loose styles offer a fuller silhouette; bootcut jeans widen below the knee.

The collection includes several Levi’s fits:

  • 501 Original: a regular fit with a straight leg.
  • 505 Regular: another straight-leg option to compare if you prefer a regular fit.
  • 502 Regular Taper: regular through the upper leg, narrowing towards the ankle.
  • 511 Slim: a closer-fitting option for those who prefer a slimmer leg.
  • 512 Slim Taper: a slim fit with a narrower hem.
  • 555 Relaxed Straight and 568 Loose Straight: fuller cuts for those who want more room.
  • 527 Slim Bootcut: a slim upper leg with a bootcut opening.

Use the individual product’s size guide and fit details when comparing models. The waist size alone won’t tell you how much room there is through the thigh or calf.

Solid black or washed black Levi’s?

A solid black wash gives the jeans a more uniform appearance and works well with a shirt and leather shoes. Faded black finishes have more visible variation, particularly around seams and areas of wear, and pair easily with T-shirts, sweatshirts and trainers.

Compare the product photographs as well as the colour name. Some washed black jeans have a charcoal appearance, so they may look quite different from a deep black pair even within the same fit.

Choosing the fabric

Check the composition of the particular wash you’re buying. A Levi’s model number describes the fit, but different versions can use different denim.

If you prefer some give when sitting or bending, look for a stretch fabric in the product details. For non-stretch denim, make sure the waist and thighs feel comfortable from the outset rather than relying on the jeans to loosen significantly.

What’s the difference between black Levi’s 511 and 512 jeans?

Both are slim fits. The main distinction is the taper: the 512 narrows more towards the ankle. Compare the leg opening if you plan to wear them over boots or prefer more room around the calf.

Should I buy the same size in every Levi’s fit?

Use your usual size as a starting point, then check the product’s sizing information. Changes in rise, leg shape and fabric can affect how the jeans feel, even when the labelled waist size is the same.

How should I care for black Levi’s jeans?

Follow the care label for the specific pair. Turn them inside out before washing, wash with similar colours and use the recommended temperature. Avoid washing more often than necessary, and follow the drying instructions to help preserve the fit and finish.
