Wonder Looper's Latest Hand-Dyed T-Shirts Have Arrived

Wonder Looper's latest collection has arrived at Jeanstore, bringing together heavyweight Japanese jersey and centuries-old natural dyeing techniques across four distinctive T-shirts. While each style shares the same premium construction, every finish offers something slightly different through the way it's dyed. From the warm tones of Sharinbai tree dye to the rich depth achieved through traditional dorozome mud dyeing, this collection is a great example of how thoughtful materials and traditional craftsmanship can come together in a simple everyday garment.

A Fabric Designed to Last

Every T-shirt in the collection is made in Japan from a 280gsm slub cotton jersey. The fabric combines recycled cotton with extra-long staple cotton, creating a jersey that feels soft, substantial and full of texture from the very first wear.

Rather than aiming for complete uniformity, Wonder Looper embraces the character of the fabric. The slub yarn creates subtle highs and lows throughout the jersey, giving every T-shirt visual depth before the dyeing process has even begun. It's this texture that allows the natural dyes to create such distinctive results across the collection.

Traditional Dyeing From Japan

Once knitted, each T-shirt is hand-dyed using traditional techniques that originate on Japan's Amami Islands. These methods have been practised for generations, relying on natural materials rather than synthetic dyes to build colour slowly and naturally.

The collection centres around two techniques. Sharinbai tree dye creates warm, earthy tones, while dorozome uses iron-rich mud to gradually deepen the colour as minerals bond with the cotton fibres. Depending on the finish, these methods are used individually or layered together to create four unique versions of the same T-shirt.

Four Finishes, One Collection

Although the construction remains identical throughout the range, each T-shirt offers something different. The Sharinbai version showcases the warm, earthy tones of the natural tree dye, while Sharinbai + Doro introduces extra depth through the traditional mud-dyeing process. Doro Max takes this even further, with repeated mud immersions creating the deepest, richest shade in the collection.

The most distinctive style is the Sharinbai + Doro Shibori version. Using the traditional Japanese shibori technique, each garment is tied and dyed by hand to create one-of-a-kind patterns. No two T-shirts are exactly alike, making every piece completely individual.

Wonder Looper's Attention to Detail

It's easy to focus on the colours, but what makes this collection stand out is the amount of work involved before the finished garment is ready to wear. From the slow-knitted slub jersey to the careful hand dyeing, every stage is designed to preserve the natural qualities of the fabric rather than hide them.

That approach reflects Wonder Looper's philosophy as a whole. Instead of chasing trends or seasonal finishes, the brand focuses on thoughtful construction, premium materials and traditional craftsmanship. The result is a collection that feels timeless, with each T-shirt offering its own unique character while sharing the same commitment to quality.
