The Paraboot Briac is a striking revival of one of the brand’s most distinctive derby shoes, first developed around 30 years ago and widely associated with 1990s style. Often nicknamed the “4x4 derby” thanks to its thick beading around the ankle and heavily notched sole, it has a bold, rugged character that still feels unmistakably Paraboot. The piped-seam derby shape and three-eyelet construction keep the silhouette clean, while the green leather gives it an especially rich, confident finish.

Crafted from smooth cowhide leather, this leather-lined model is built with Blake stitching for a supple feel and a streamlined profile. It is finished with coffee-coloured leather laces and set on Paraboot’s Jannu Miel rubber sole, whose deeply notched design reinforces the shoe’s sturdy, heritage-inflected look.

Paraboot is one of France’s great heritage footwear makers with a story rooted in the Alpine village of Izeaux and the ambition of Rémy Richard, who began building his shoemaking business in the early 20th century. The Richard-Pontvert company was founded in 1910, before the Paraboot name was registered in 1927, combining “Para” from the Amazonian port linked to latex export with “boot”, inspired by the rubber-soled footwear Rémy had discovered in America. This connection to rubber became part of the brand’s identity, leading to hard-wearing soles and practical shoes designed for real use, from workwear and mountain footwear to everyday leather shoes with substance and character.

At the heart of Paraboot is a commitment to traditional French shoemaking and sewn construction. While much of the industry moved towards glued, mass-produced footwear after the Second World War, Paraboot chose to stay with Goodyear and Norwegian-welted methods, thick leathers and durable rubber soles. This dedication helped shape iconic models such as the Morzine and the legendary Michael, introduced in 1945, a shoe that has crossed decades, styles and subcultures while remaining unmistakably Paraboot. The brand has also maintained long relationships with trusted tanneries, reinforcing its reputation for quality materials, practical design and understated craftsmanship.

Today, Paraboot remains a family story, now in its fourth generation, and one of the enduring emblems of Made in France footwear. Its collections balance rugged heritage with a more urban, refined direction, offering shoes made with the same respect for craft, comfort and longevity that has defined the brand for over a century. With production now brought together in Saint-Jean-de-Moirans, Paraboot continues to preserve a rare shoemaking tradition: footwear built with purpose, made to last, and shaped by the meeting of family knowledge, technical innovation and French craft.
