Stan Ray is a true workwear brand with roots that run deep. Founded in 1972 by Earl Beard in Crockett, Texas, the brand began with a straightforward purpose: to make durable, dependable clothing in the USA. After leaving Kalman Machine Co, Earl set up his own operation under the name Earl’s Apparel, buying a small number of machines and building the business around quality he could control. From painter pants to fatigue trousers, the garments quickly earned a reputation among tradespeople for their strength, practicality and no-nonsense construction.
What makes Stan Ray special is the way its clothing moved from job sites to wider culture without ever losing its original purpose. The brand’s OG-107 fatigues and work pants found their way into surplus stores and later became highly sought after by Japanese vintage collectors, whose appreciation for authentic American workwear helped introduce Stan Ray to a new audience. This connection between Texas manufacturing and Japanese heritage clothing culture gave the brand a cult following, proving that honest utility and well-made garments could travel far beyond their original working environment.
More than 50 years later, Stan Ray remains family-run and closely tied to its Crockett factory, where core pieces such as painter pants, fatigues and jackets continue to reflect the same values Earl Beard built the brand on. Practical fabrics, relaxed fits, reinforced details and timeless silhouettes define the range, making Stan Ray a natural choice for anyone who appreciates clothing with real heritage and everyday purpose. It is workwear in its purest form: tough, functional and made with quiet confidence.
