The Vietnamese souvenir jacket was born in the 1960s at the request of American soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War. It is said that the idea came from the soldiers having their parachutes and sleeping bags remade into jackets as a souvenir when they returned safely to their homeland after the war.

This time, the motif is "Mothra vs. Godzilla", released in 1964, the same era in which the Vietnamese souvenir jacket was born, and the design is an arrangement of the famous vintage parachute drop pattern.

Mothra is embroidered on the right chest of the front, and "Fuku" (luck) is in gold embroidery on the left chest; and Godzilla, who looks like a rising dragon and has a dynamic look, is embroidered on both arms. He's just so angry! Meanwhile, on the rear of the jacket, the song of Mothra is embroidered in white. A hanging parachutist pig is depicted being carried aloft by Mothra. The humourous embroidery design, typical of SDA, is a must-have for Godzilla and Studio D'Artisan fans.

This is sure to be a useful light outerwear piece for the early spring and early autumn. It goes well with jeans and chinos, and can be worn over a sweatshirt or T-shirt.

Studio D'Artisan.

This is where is all began. The first of the legendary 'Osaka 5', Studio D'Artisan was founded in 1979 by Shigeharu Tagaki, a designer who had been learning his trade in France. Inspired by French workwear and especially the American jeans craze sweeping Japan in the late sixties and early seventies, Tagaki started reproducing vintage denim on old Toyada G-3 shuttle loom. Disappointed with the poor quality of mass-produced jeans which flooded the market in the 1980s, the company were soon making original denim goods, utilizing designs and productions techniques from the golden age of jeans.

It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the company was one of the prime reasons for the explosion of interest in Japanese denim in the late nineties and early aughts. In fact, SDA claim that their flagship model 'DO-1' was the first raw selvedge jean produced, making it the granddaddy of Japanese quality denim.
