Description

Suvin Gold is one of the most prized of all cotton varieties and is extra-long staple and incredibly thin. Considered to be the world's finest ultra-long cotton material. Only 1500 to 2000 bales are produced per year.

The result is a gorgeously soft fabric and SDA have spared no expense in using it to construct this supremely comfortable loopwheeled tee. Constructed using traditional Japanese kimono-making techniques, the entire garment is made of just two pieces of fabric.

The cotton contains natural wax and fats. It has a silky lustre, drape, and a smooth hand. You can enjoy the soft texture of the raw cotton itself. The Tsuri-Ami knitting machine does not add extra tension to the thread - it's knitted slowly, and even after finished knitting it's stored underneath without winding the fabric. For that reason, it's plump and soft, and has the characteristic of feeling light even though it is thick.

- 100% Suvin Gold cotton
- 7.5oz
- Loopwheeled construction
- No horizontal under-sleeve stitching, giving a relaxed fit with a heavy drape

This is where it all began. The first of the legendary 'Osaka 5', Studio D'Artisan was founded in 1979 by Shigeharu Tagaki, a designer who had been learning his trade in France. Inspired by French workwear and especially the American jeans craze sweeping Japan in the late sixties and early seventies, Tagaki started reproducing vintage denim on old Toyada G-3 shuttle looms. Disappointed with the poor quality of mass-produced jeans which flooded the market in the 1980s, the company was soon making original denim goods, utilising designs and production techniques from the golden age of jeans. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the company was one of the prime reasons for the explosion of interest in Japanese denim in the late nineties and early aughts. In fact, SDA claim that their flagship model 'DO-1' was the first raw selvedge jean produced in Japan, making it the granddaddy of Japanese quality denim.

But Studio D'Artisan aren't a brand living in the past. They continue to produce a wide range of high-quality products which make them one of the most sought-after Japanese denim brands (the scarcity of Western stockists only adds to the demand). We at JEANSTORE are proud to offer a wide selection of SDA's wares, from jeans to clothing and accessories.
