    Description

This jacket is made of Studio D'Artisan's original 'Noragi Kasuri Sashiko' fabric.
The fabric has a ruggedness and warm feel, and the buttons are snap buttons, which is rare for jackets. There is a diamond quilted lining for excellent cold-weather protection and an inside breast pocket along with two handwarmers.

This fabric uses threads that use a special dye that originated in Niigata.
This dyeing is characterised by creating mottles on the fibres and
mottled colours, such as in kasuri dyeing.

Because this thread is made by hand it is imprecise and creates a unique colour gradation that cannot be produced without the skill of a craftsman. In order to express the warmth of hand-stitched sashiko threads running vertically and horizontally, the directions and types are changed here and there, and they are shrunk to create complex irregularities on the surface of the fabric.

    Made in Japan
    100% cotton

    Diamond quilted lining

This is where it all began. The first of the legendary 'Osaka 5', Studio D'Artisan was founded in 1979 by Shigeharu Tagaki, a designer who had been learning his trade in France. Inspired by French workwear and especially the American jeans craze sweeping Japan in the late sixties and early seventies, Tagaki started reproducing vintage denim on old Toyada G-3 shuttle looms. Disappointed with the poor quality of mass-produced jeans which flooded the market in the 1980s, the company was soon making original denim goods, utilising designs and production techniques from the golden age of jeans. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the company was one of the prime reasons for the explosion of interest in Japanese denim in the late nineties and early aughts. In fact, SDA claim that their flagship model 'DO-1' was the first raw selvedge jean produced in Japan, making it the granddaddy of Japanese quality denim.

But Studio D'Artisan aren't a brand living in the past. They continue to produce a wide range of high-quality products which make them one of the most sought-after Japanese denim brands (the scarcity of Western stockists only adds to the demand). We at JEANSTORE are proud to offer a wide selection of SDA's wares, from jeans to clothing and accessories.
